Chromatic is an experiment about art on chain. Chromatic consists of representations, tools, and systems for creating new expressions on chain.
The Material: Chroma
Chroma is a non-fungible token (NFT). Each Chroma represents a distinct color on the RGB system, and thus there are 16,777,216 Chroma each representing a different color.
Chroma can be thought of as the material for the artist. It is meant to be embedded in works of art to furnish the work with a hue. The uniqueness of Chroma ensures that every work of art is unique itself.
Chroma is a primitive, designed to be used and combined in flexible ways.
The Tools: Chromatic Canvas and More
The Chromatic Canvas is the first tool that utilizes Chroma. It allows artists to create any two-dimensional representation using a combination of Chroma.
Each Chromatic Canvas is also a non-fungible token (NFT). Artists can embed Chroma and specify locations for each embedded Chroma to apply color on the canvas.
Theoretically, the limitations on the size of the canvas are almost non-existent, yet as the robustness of the user interface and querying systems are upgraded, the size of the canvas is currently limited to 64 by 64 pixels.
The Chromatic Canvas is the first in a series of tools. It is the proof of concept.
The Currency: Fungible Chroma
With 16 million Chroma, the task of continuously appraising each individual chroma becomes a herculean endeavor. Chroma is meant to be fluidly exchanged and acquired in accordance to need, and that is why Fungible Chroma (ERC20) exists.
Chroma and Fungible Chroma have a one to one relationship. A Chroma can be transmuted into a Fungible Chroma and vice versa. A Chroma that is transmuted into its fungible counterpart will be stored in the contract, available to be acquired via transmutation by anyone in the future. With each transmutation, Chroma maintains its one to one relationship by minting and burning Fungible Chroma.
Chromatic is an artistic experiment in software. It is an experiential art software. Chromatic is built with the belief that there is something priceless in the ability to create a unique and perennial expression on chain.
